Precursor is Closing!

As many of you already know, we've been trying to sell the shop at rue des Blancs Manteax for the past few months - and we're a mixture of happy and sad to tell you that we've just found a buyer, meaning Precursor will be closing on 31st August - just under two short weeks away.

But the good news is that we're having a HUGE clearance sale up until we close at the end of the month. We've made massive discounts across everything in store, including the latest new collection - with prices starting from just 2€ up to a maximum of 40€! So to make sure you get the best pick of the final bargains, hurry along to the store ASAP as everything is priced to go!

On a final note, we'd also like to say that we've had a great time over the last two years and have made many friends through Precursor - so thank you for making it as special as it was, we couldn't have done it without you.

Apero de Rue - Mark II

Following the success of the last rue des Blancs Manteaux Apero, we've teamed up with our neighbours once again to host another street party. There will be live music, candy floss and plenty of booze - what more could you want on a Friday evening?!

Spring Party Time

Here at Precursor, we've had enough of the drab winter weather and are getting pretty excited about spring being just round the corner. So, to celebrate the start of the (slightly) better weather and (slightly) lighter evenings, we've decided to launch our new S/S collection in the best manner we know how - i.e. with buckets of alcohol and store-wide discounts for our favourite customers (that would be you).

So on Friday 12th March, dust off the winter cobwebs, pack your beer goggles and perhaps an umbrella in case its raining and get yourselves down to the shop for endless drinks and 15% off the entire new collection.

In the run-up to Christmas we're mightily pleased to announce the arrival of two new taster collections before we kick-off with their proper arrival next season.

It's Our Birthday!

Precursor has just turned one year old - woooooooooo!

To celebrate our first anniversary we're hosting an 'Apero de Rue' from 6.30pm till late on Friday 2nd October - and if you're free we'd love you to come along and have a glass (or three) with us.

Together with our neighbours Les Bains du Marais, Auto Portrait, Monjul and Johanna Braitbart we're also welcoming three new shops to the street - Boutique (Homme), Velvet Chic and Terres de Cafe - so it gives us extra reason to celebrate.

All of the shops will be providing drinks and discounts on the evening, Monjul restaurant will be supplying something nice to munch on and live music will come courtesy of jazz trio 'Noushma' - so as long as the weather holds up, it should be a good evening!

Running In Heels

Another week and another nice bit of press. This time something a little bit different from 'Running In Heels' - an online pan-European magazine for young women with brains as well as style. Their site covers art, literature, politics, travel, health - and of course fashion - with contributions coming from their young team of writers (all under the age of 35!) around Europe.

RIH quizzed the Precursor ladies on the shop, their influences/inspirations and of course, whether they can run in heels. Which we can, obviously.

FRONTSTYLE

FRONTSTYLE is a Japanese online magazine, featuring fashion trends alongside individual style and shop reports from around the world - and their Precursor article has just gone live on the website.

For those fluent in Japanese (which might not actually be that many...) you can read the article here. The rest of us will have to make do with looking at the nice pictures.

New Labels for A/W09

Now that the summer sales are over and everyone seems to have left Paris for their month-long holiday (lucky buggers) we thought what better time to give you a little sneak preview of the new brands arriving at Precursor for the new season...

First up, there is wearetuktuk. The man behind the label is a rather nice chap from the North of England who sensibly escaped the chilly climes by moving to Sri Lanka where wearetuktuk produce shirts, bags, ties and belts all with a fair trade bent. Their emphasis is on bespoke tailoring and well cut garments mixed together with a big dollop of interesting, unusual and sometimes garish fabrics. And even better, everything is made in short runs which means it's unlikely that you'll be seeing your shirt on someone else too.

Next up we have Norsea Industries. We're not ashamed to admit it - we're just a little bit in love with this new label. Launched in January 2008, Norsea also hails from the North of England and takes its inspiration for the collection from the people and seascapes of the North Sea - blending workwear and utility clothing with a touch of classic sportswear from the 50s and 60s. Right, just so we're clear: love it love it love it.

House of Billiam are pretty darn orginal. They take classic British suiting fabrics and create very unsuit-like clothes. We've teamed up with the boys from HoB to offer their bespoke hoodies (hand-made and made-to-measure) in a range of brilliant inner and outer suiting fabrics which are exclusive to Precursor. No two jackets will be the same and you get to choose your inner and outer fabrics from a range of 20 swatches in store - and when they've been used for you, they are replaced by another so yours is completly unique. It's like going to Savile Row. Only cooler.

We are super excited about our next label - the return of Burro! You'd be hard pushed to find anyone of 'our' age group (ahem) who'll not remember Brit brand Burro. Originally founded in 1990, Burro had the reputation of being one of the most directional and influential British menswear brands with great cuts and amazing prints. We're glad to see them back and, more importantly, in Precursor's wardrobe.

Brass Label is the brainchild of Zoe Watt, a former student at Central St. Martins, who has previously worked for big names such as Boudicca and Peter Jensen. Now in it's second season, Brass Label's AW collection focuses on simple shapes with quirky detail and fabric choices with inspiration drawn from the 1940s. Think Katherine Hepburn as a modern day British geek.

We've got a few new accessory lines too. Mimi Berry is another graduate of Central St. Martins and now designs and shows her wares at a beautiful store on Cheshire Street, just off Brick Lane in London. All of her bags and accessories are made in super soft Italian leather and are manufactured in the UK. We'll be showing off her handbags and laptop bags as well as wallets and passport holders - all in beautiful reds, greys and browns (plus black, naturally!). Is it a bit greedy to want one of each for ourselves?

Bethan Carr designs and makes her Bbel Jewellery line in the UK with fairytales, folklore, birds and forests as her inspiration. Using recycled silver and acrylic, her designs are handmade from start to finish - hand cut, sculpted, formed and finished with love. We love them too.

Finally, a first at Precursor, we're launching a new line of underwear for women. Fabulous in High Heels have designed 'the perfect pair of knickers' designed for comfort (think Bridget Jones) but with a nice touch of glamour. They are finished in a super soft and silky satin with a concealed seam at the top, so if they peak over the top of your jeans they add a splash of colour rather than a muffin top. 'Here here' to that!

That's about it for now, but we'll keep you in the loop of anything else coming our way.

In the meantime, just to let you know we'll be closing for a few days in August to give Precursor a little facelift. The doors will be locked (although the lights may be on) on 4th, 6th, 10th, 11th, 16th and 17th August. It will all be worth it though, with our beloved stripey floor being brought back to its former glory.

The A/W collections (new and existing brands) will then start to go out from the end of August - and as usual all details will go up on the blog, so stay tuned.

Spring Menswear Taster

This week has seen the arrival of three great menswear brands:

Cathal McAteer's Folk collection has twice earned him a nomination for Scottish Designer of the Year and it's easy to see why when you take a close look at the subtle detailing of Folk's fine gauge knitwear and shirting.

Firmly finding their feet in the 1960's and 70's, Aertex has always been a classic feature of sports and schoolwear. Still going strong, Aertex are producing some of the best tees we've seen - whether you are old enough to remember PE kits from the 70's or not, they're bang on the money.

And last but not least, Shoreditch based brand People's Market's aim is to create simple fashionable garments, well cut and quirky but at pocket-friendly prices. And they do it well.

Precursor's First Blog

Welcome to the first post on the new Precursor blog site - launched to keep you up to date on new arrivals, happenings and general gossip here at Precursor.

As well as showcasing forthcoming seasonal collections from some of our staple brands, we'll also be posting the new monthly deliveries from Public Beware, Hurwundeki and Albam, amongst other little gems that regularly arrive on our doorstep.

Our next new collection will be in store on Saturday 29th November and to give you plenty of time to shop till you drop, we're extending our opening hours that day from 11am - 10pm. And if all those shopping hours sound exhausting, fear not as we'll have plenty of wine and Christmas treats on hand to revive you!

As with our regular collection, many of the new arrivals are limited edition pieces. We'll be posting pictures of some of our favourite bits in the run up to their arrival on 29th November - so keep an eye on our blog and visit the store soon to avoid disappointment!
